Fellow PSJCers,

I hope you are faring well in the aftermath of this storm. If you are
without electricity or water, or just in need of a little extra support,
please do not hesitate to call (718-768-1453 x1).

I know the need throughout the city remains great, and many people are ready
to help address those needs. Here are some ways we can help:

The Armory
As you know, the armory across the street from PSJC has been serving as an
evacuation site for many displaced by the storm. They have many volunteers,
but are still in need of the following supplies:

UNOPENED PRE-PACKAGED FOOD

CLOTHING IN THE FOLLOWING SIZES:
--Any XL MEN's clothing
--XL Men's Pants
--XL Men's Jackets
--XL Men's Shirts
--XL Men's Sweatshirts

PSJC WILL HAVE BOXES FOR THESE ITEMS IN THE KIDDUSH ROOM AND IN THE LOWER
SANCTUARY. PLEASE BRING THEM BY THIS WEEKEND, AND WE WILL MAKE SURE THEY
ARE DELIVERED TO THOSE IN NEED.

Masbia
Masbia is providing prepared food to the people evacuated to the Armory
Shelter and many others. To support Masbia or to volunteer to help, please
go to their website:

Prospect Park
The high winds of hurricane Sandy wreaked havoc on Prospect Park. To help
with the clean-up efforts there (Friday-Sunday), please contact the Prospect
Park Alliance.

Shorefront JCC
The Shorefront JCC has become a center for relief efforts for the Jewish
communities of Brighton Beach and Coney Island. If you are able to
volunteer, please call 718-743-0575

Red hook
To reach out and support the community in Redhook, please consider these
donation/volunteer opportunities:

1) The following are needed and can be dropped off at 767 Hicks Street:
flashlights, batteries, candles, soap, paper towels, and non-perishable
food. We do NOT need clothing.

2) If you'd like to volunteer to help a local Redhook business with clean up
efforts, call 718-858-6782 and to be directed to a location.

There will likely be a community-wide cleanup of Redhook in the next few
days. We will post more information as we hear about it.

Blood Donations needed
Blood donations continue to be needed across New York. Please contact the
Red Cross to learn where you can donate.

As always, we must continue to reach out to the members of our community and
to our neighbors to help one another through this difficult time. Thanks to
so many who have been working tirelessly to support those in need,
volunteering at shelters, staying up night upon night to restore subway/bus
service, to restore power to those in need. Thanks to those who have opened
their homes to others--and to those who have expressed a willingness to do
so--It is good to know that we have resources available to share when the
need arises.

May this be a good and peace-filled Shabbat for us all.

Here is an update on volunteer opportunities to help victims of Hurricane Sandy………
Dear Neighbor,
Thank you for reaching out to our office for volunteer opportunities to help those affected by Hurricane Sandy. We are working with local electeds throughout the boroughs to communicate these coordinated efforts and will continue to share with you.
In addition, our office is helping to coordinate with Mel Wymore the filling of a large truck of supplies to be delivered to Staten Island early next week. The JCC in Manhattan (334 Amsterdam Avenue at West 76 Street) and several other West Side institutions have volunteered to accept high need items for this effort over the weekend and through Monday, November 5, including: non-perishable food items, batteries, flashlights, blankets, diapers and wipes, toiletries, cleaning supplies, jackets, towels, and clothing for adults and children - especially new socks and tshirts.

Sincerely,
Shulamit Warren
